A Tribute to Gabe

So, I have been grounded in the capital for almost a week, I have bronchitus and the doctors won´t let me do much. So, I have hit the internet really hard... getting work done, updating the blog, mostly doing nothing at all...

I have been looking at blogs of my friends and I realized that I have let a bro down. I have a pretty tight crew here in Peace Corps - lucky guy. My partner in crime since about 6 months into country has been Gabe Cohen. Gabe is a Rural Health Volunteer out in Metapan, in Northwestern El Salv. Gabe is a crazy talent with a camera and because of the has some mad shots of me on his blog... He has included me in quite a few entries. Then again, when I am not at site busting my butt I am more than likely donde Gabe relaxing, playing kick the ball on his porch and washing his dishes (something he never does). I have also hung with his bros, friends and parents while their were hear on their vacations. All and all, I owe Gabe a toast.. A toast or a roast!

I realize I owe Gabe a shout out, and there is no better way that a Peace Corps Roast!

Gabe is living proof that once you pop, you can´t stop.

Only guy I know that on a daily basis plays tag with cattle. Normally we just stay quiet and try not to get nervios.

He also loves to pretend to be the boat captain. He seriously knocked a 5 year old out of his way to wheel.

He does great fish impressions... once again, we stay quiet and try not to get nervious.

All I have to say es Egon from Ghost Busters.

Only six foot white guy that hitch hikes everywhere he goes. Pays with cookies...

Has fell off waterfalls at least 8 times since I met him.

OK, OK, all jokes aside - Gabe is one of the best volunteers El Salvador has:

He has brought eye care campains to his community.

Gives great health discussions.

Helps local students get scholarships to continue studying.

Does a serious of health campaigns in his community ranging from trash and recylcing to dengue prevention.

Kicked butt on a fireword efficient burning stove project.

And has spent the last year organzing and amazing Rabbit Project in order to provide a better diet to the families in his community - this project has been a great success.

Sure he isn´t as good looking as me.

But he is still a good pal.

Is it weird that I have dedicated a blog to Gabe? Absolutely. Do I owe him one? I have for about two years now. Guy has helped me a lot during my service from baseball clinics to building houses all the way to spreading awareness to his friends and family back home about the devastation in my community.

Check out his blog, which is absolutely amazing, in order to get a better feel on his perspective of Peace Corps and get a glimpse of me in his community:
